Maybe You Find Yourself Sick Of All This Repitition

What's really left to say about this team?  They're so monotonous that I find myself reusing song titles for names of my posts.  While I am still going to the game next Sunday out in Jersey, I have no desire to see this group do anything but be put out of their misery.  Seriously, Dean Spanos thinks Groupon will help sell tickets to tomorrow's game?  What a shock that the Bolts weren't able to avoid a blackout anyway.  If he'd fire Norv and AJ already, fans would show up to the stadium just to celebrate.  I think we all still enjoy the feeling of community amongst The Legion Of The Lightning Bolt.  However, it would be nice if the only thing that unified all fans was an unspeakable hatred for their owner, general manager and coach.

Once they lost that second Denver game, I stopped truly wanting this team to succeed.  To be honest, it was evident during that game that they really weren't going to do anything this season.  The defense kept them in the game for a while and they couldn't do shit.  Of course, if the defense had been able to make a single stop in the first Denver game or in the fourth quarter in New Orleans the season might have gone differently.  Ryan Mathews' touchdown leap was truly the season's high water mark.  After that, everything went downhill.

I was actually asked on Twitter to stop with the "hate" for Philip Rivers.  I don't think the Tweeter understood that I have been a huge Rivers fan.  However, I just can't rationalize his mistakes any more.  This article from the summer deserves to be read again now that the season is essentially over.  However, I'm not going to go into why I worry so about Philip because I know he's not going anywhere.  I was that away about Marty for a while.  But you remember that, FAITHFUL READER.  Mathews is now my biggest concern.  The line sucks and Norv continues to send him into the middle of it as he did with LT in his last two seasons in San Diego.  Mathws is definitely flawed and Mike Mayock's point that he hasn't been able to break free of tacklers bears repeating.  Rich Gannon's comment that was allegedly uttered by Norv first is also sadly true.  His field vision does appear to suck.  He hasn't been able to get involved in the passing game, but I don't think Rivers has ever really figured out how to throw a screen.  The last time he actually lofted one was in the 1/14/07 meltdown against New England and that was picked off by Roosevelt Colvin.  I liked the bit in this U-T piece about Norv's absolute refusal to take out Ronnie Brown on 3rd downs.  Again, I know Mathews has issues.  But at this point, why have him if you're going to see what you've got?

CJ Spiller was the only back rated higher than Mathews in that draft.  He's having a great year this season after the injury to Fred Jackson.  However, that was the same draft where Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez were drafted long after Mathews.  We also traded a pick that ended up in San Francisco and allowed them to draft Navarro Bowman.  I know, more shit for us to be angry about.

Of course, we were never drafting a tight end.  It's sad that Gates was healthy and slimmer this season and it didn't even matter.  Father Time is clearing gaining on him.  It will be interesting to see what Deano does after Norv is fired.  Yes, even I now believe that it's going to happen.  During that 2010 game against the Niners, Marty Caswell Tweeted from the sidelines what a mess that team was under Mike Singletary.  Last year, they had essentially the same team under Harbaugh.  We can only hope that the right coach might actually light a fire under the collective asses of whatever team we field in 2013.

I couldn't even root for Philly on Thursday Night because, as I already said, this team needs to be put down for good.  However, I will be watching tomorrow.  It turned out that the Barbie movie Sarah and I were going to see last week was at noon.  So I ended up watching the game in real time.  Apparently, Ronnie Brown won't suit up so Norv will be forced to use Mathews exclusively.  Either that or he'll grab Mike Tolbert from Carolina's sideline and use him.

It goes without saying that this issue of JIC is dedicated to the kids from Connecticut.
